Today, Adobe launched Firefly, a new group of generative AI models focused on creating images and text effects. Available now in beta, Firefly is available in Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Experience Cloud and Adobe Express.
Firefly joins Adobe’s Sensei technology, which has used AI for features like “Content Aware Fill” in Photoshop and “Liquid Mode” in Acrobat.
Helping creators. Firefly uses generative AI with graphics tools like brushes, color gradients and video tools to speed up production and make it easier for creators to make high quality content, regardless of their experience.
Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator are among the first applications with Firefly.
Why we care. One of the big questions with the proliferation of generative AI in tech this year has to do with where humans fit in. The Firefly AI models and capabilities aim at increasing teams’ content production, and improving the abilities of creative workers. Essentially, Firefly makes it easier to produce first rate images, video, audio and other assets. Firefly is drawing on openly-licensed to help complete designs that humans dream up.

Firefly models. Firefly will eventually comprise multiple models. Adobe’s first model is trained on Adobe Stock images, as well as openly-licensed content and content in the public domain.
Because this first model is based on Adobe Stock, it won’t generate content that uses other businesses’ or people’s intellectual property.
Integrations. Adobe also plans to make Firefly available on other platforms through APIs.
