AUCKLAND, Today: The latest addition to the DC cinematic universe, Birds of Prey stars Margot Robbie as an anti-heroine who takes no prisoners. Taking a leaf out of the blockbuster playbook, Phantom Billstickers have come up with an equally compelling take on street-level advertising.
To complement the film’s striking ad campaign, Phantom commissioned an eye-popping mural to cover their Symonds Street site.
This had the effect of matching the vivid aesthetic of the posters, which in turn reflected the film director’s vision.
With 24 Max posters and one Super extending across the corner site, the Birds of Prey street poster campaign is impossible to miss, reckons Phantom marketing manager Ben Stonyer.
“The Phantom team enjoys this sort of challenge,” he says. “While it can be tricky to find the right artists and coordinate artworks, we have the connections to make things happen at short notice.
“With a film like Birds of Prey, there’s the opportunity to create an experience at street level – and that certainly whips up excitement for the film’s opening.”
“OMD: It’s one thing to have a bright idea, but the real artistry lies in being able to execute it.”
OMD account manager Stephanie Cornwall said: “It’s one thing to have a bright idea, but the real artistry lies in being able to execute it.
“The vibrant, urban feel of the film was a perfect fit for street posters, so it was fantastic to go one step further and portray this through a bespoke site takeover.
“The Phantom team were proactive and enthusiastic about bringing this creative execution to life, which made the collaboration smooth and enjoyable.”
Stonyer: “Bespoke murals and one-off installations offer marketers the opportunity to differentiate their campaigns and build excitement into launches.
“As the digital space becomes increasingly crowded, a vivid and unique statement on street posters allows brands to take fans by surprise.
“You might not want to get on the wrong side of a DC movie villain, but you can certainly learn a few tricks from her.”
